DJ Earworm : What's My Name

Instead of posting one of my own creations on this blog, I've decided to pay a little respect to another producer whose work I've enjoyed as as a listener, and whose work has influenced me as a producer.

I've been collecting other producer's mashups for a few years now, long before I started producing my own mashups. DJ Earworm is one producer that has left a lasting impression on me from day one with his unique style, lyrical interplay, and excellent quality productions.

Although I'm still trying to figure out my own mashup style, his work has definitely influenced my own mashup productions. When putting a mashup together with two or more songs with lyrics, I try to create some lyrical interplay that creates a different meaning than the original sources, or plays on the concept of the merged titles and songs. After you listen to his work and then give my work a listen, you might hear some of the lyrical interplay influences of DJ Earworm in my productions.

I've selected to showcase What's My Name by DJ Earworm because it's a prime example of how he's able to take several sources (22 songs to be exact) and masterfully put them together in a playful seamless banter that begs to answer the question... what's my name.

Visit DJ Earworm's site to enjoy this masterful piece.

New Wave Of German Heavy Mashup

The new DJ Morgoth album "Mash-Up Your Bootz Vol. 3" is out for some days now.
There is a main theme this time, called "Das Deutsche Album" or in translation "The German Album". So this means, there are only German Vocals used in the trackz. Expect some international bands like Blur, Fear Factory, Celldweller, Daft Punk, Evanescence, Kasabian, Depeche Mode, Bloc Party and more meeting up with the German Vocals of Rap/Hip-Hop Artists (Fettes Brot, Die Fantastischen Vier, Dynamite Deluxe, Jan Delay, Deichkind...), controversial Rock Band (Böhse Onkelz), famous Reggae/Dancehall Group (Seeed), Electro-Acts (Lützenkirchen & Deichkind), Pop-Artist (Ich und Ich) or even some Newcomer, Local & Fresh Bands (Planetakis, Egotronic).

Have fun with the German Vocals of some local Superacts and getting in touch with a few great new artists.

Dunproofin' – Alphaboot (The Futureheads vs. Alphabeat)

A great actual Dunproofin' hit!
"The Futureheads", a British indie-rock band meets up with the Danisch pop band "Alphabeat". And this tune is the perfect soundtrack for summer...put out your sunglasses and have some fun!

Qubic - Working Class Stigmata

As a bit of technical insight into this song... The main instrumental mix is constructed of reversed audio samples of the deconstructed/reconstructed snippets and loops that I extracted from Working Class Hero, giving the mashup a more alternative and slightly industrial sound. You can't have a religious stigmata-like experience without having something going backwards, right?! But I won't be held responsible for any hidden images that you mind find in the album artwork for this mashup. ;)

Markyboy's Exclusives

These two tunes have just featured on Ramdom Thoughts podcast Show 100. Scott (the podcaster) asked us for exclusives to be played for his milestone show and he wasn't disappointed! The show contained 22 exclusives from many talented DJs/mash artists (including me for some strange reason :)). There are some fantastic tunes - check out his website!
The two exclusives from me were:

Do you Believe in Atomic Energy - Download here!
This uses a loop and vocals cut from Blondie's 'Atomic' mixed with Cher's 'Believe'. A poppy, dancey tune with a little retro flavour thrown in for good measure.

Let the Bells Play - Download Here!
This tune uses a loop and vocals cut from Anita Ward's 'Ring my Bell' with acapella from Shannon's 'Let the Music Play'. If you like 70's/80's dance /soul this should be right up your street.

Neon Sex People - Neon Neon vs Depeche Mode by Timbearland

Timbearland says:
I think this is fairly obvious and hope no-one has already done it, I finished it several weeks ago and have been scared since then someone would do it as well!Basically the new Neon Neon (Gruff from Super Furry Animals and Boom Bip) is ace, but the track 'I Lust U' is more than slightly influenced by a certain Depeche Mode track, so I've mashed People are People and I Lust U together, with occasional interventions from Latour's People Are Still Having Sex.I think it's brill and one of my best, but then I would would'nt I?

Slingshot - You Shook Me All Night Long (Apollo Zero Reconstruct)

Slingshot covered AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long" as dance floor remake with portions of Kraftwerk's Tour De France released on Quality Records in 1983. Slingshot from what I can see was a project produced by Gex Sawton , Jack Tann , John Lewis. Lead Vocals are by Kathy Kosins, who has recorded and released jazz records over the years. I liked this track but wanted to add something to it to give it more bump and grind, since the original lacked some punch. I added some keyboard sounds, sirens, beats, sfx and samples from The Jacksons "State of Shock" I still kept the retro vibe. I also built a new breakdown with a bit of Moby's Disco Lies remixed by Diskokaine. Grab it now, it's more a remix but still a mash with some elements from Moby and Jacksons.
